your screen ( my screen
multi-channel video installation, 2022
Using two LED monitors in fluid, disjointed communication with one another, I explore my relationship with the phone as a personal device to gather, construct, send, receive and modify information, signals, images, and inputs.
The phone’s screen mediates my visual experience. Continuously, I find myself using it to capture colors and textures in the world surrounding me and the world of my own body — thus documenting, and making sense of, existence. Our relationship with the screen, particularly the phone screen, seems paradoxical. It acts as a means of processing our experientiality, while also posing as a barrier to slowing ourselves adequately enough for cherishing life’s moments.
Through our screens, we craft our own truths via documenting and cataloging our lived experience — the truths that are disseminated back to us via the screen are as transmutable and aqueous as the pixels that make up its contents.
