01 02 03 04 imagines a pre-existence. The video narrative stars an entity awaiting entrance into the world, unknowing of what form it will take when it arrives. It begins with innocent curiosity and anticipation, as the short film’s main character asks the viewer about themselves and the world they have yet to enter.

Devolving into a chaotic roller coaster of information and images, the journey the viewer takes with the film’s subject arrives at a point of content and peace.

When the film was first shown publicly, each audience member was prompted upon arrival to the event hall to pull the string and spin the wheel of the children’s toy seen in the film — they were then “assigned” an animal identity based on what the arrow landed on.

So much of who we are is assigned to us, some by chance, some by circumstance, some by societal expectation. This film originated in the spirit of wanting to explore what it means to create your own sense of self outside of what has been assigned to you and expected of you.
